Add Class or Block Hours on the Time tab

This article describes how to add individual student classroom and block time attendance on the Students>Time screen.

Student hours can be added to a record on the Students>Time screen or the Classes>Attendance screen. The Students>Time screen is better if you have only a couple of attendance dates to add for the student.

You must have a SiD Admin level login to add hours on the Students>Time tab.

Add classroom hours

Use the form at the top of the Students>Time screen to add time rows.

  1. Date - type the date the hours were earned
  2. Time Type - defaults to “Contact,” the most common time type. Other options appear in the menu. Choose the one that fits the kind of hours you’re recording.
    - For Distance Learning hours entry, see Add Distance Learning Hours
    - To learn how to add GED Testing Hours, see Add GED Testing Hours
  3. Class Menu - Displays the available classes for the selected date and time type. The class names also indicate the times they are open.
If you don't see a class as expected:
    - make sure you chose the right Time Type
    - check to see if the student is enrolled in the class on the date you typed
  4. Start Time defaults to noon. Adjust it to the actual time the student started working in class that day. You can record time for an hour before and an hour after the scheduled time - unless it overlaps time already entered for another class the same day.
  5. Hours - type the number of hours in decimal format. Use quarter hour increments (.25, .5, .75) for partial hours.
  6. Click Save

Add block time

Block time is used when student hours are not associated with a class. Your program may record student counseling or orientation hours as block time. In general, assigning hours to a class is preferred over block time.

  1. Date - type the date the hours were earned
  2. Time Type - defaults to “Contact,” the most common time type. Other options appear in the menu. Choose the one that fits the kind of hours you’re recording.
  3. Class Menu - choose Block Time
  4. Start Time defaults to noon. Adjust it to the actual time the student started their counseling, orientation or testing session.
  5. Hours - type the number of hours in decimal format.
  6. Click Save

Troubleshooting

Here are some common error messages you may see when trying to save student time.

  1. Student has no valid NRS test. Academic students need a valid pre-test for the current NRS program year. Students who don’t have a valid pre-test are limited to less than 12 hours of attendance for the entire year. We call this the 12 Hour Lockdown for Students with No EFL. In this case, the student should be pre-tested immediately. After the score is added to SiD, you can resume entering attendance for the student.
  2. Attendance prior to (some date) cannot be entered. Program staff can only add, edit, and delete attendance for the current month and one month prior. This is called the One (1) Month Lockdown for Entering Time, Tests.
If your staff missed entering a few older hours or you need to edit existing hours, we don’t have a way to allow you to fix them. Instead, SiD Support staff will adjust them for you. Email us at sidsupport@literacymn.org and we'll work with you to add the time if it's possible.
