This article describes how to add a new subsite, or edit or hide an existing subsite.
In SiD terms, a subsite is a building, facility, or locations grouped together for local planning, data management, and reporting. Each SiD site must have at least one subsite.
Best practice: create a separate subsite for each building or location where ABE services are provided.
Users must have Admin level login privileges to add, edit, or hide subsites.
Explanation of Subsite Terms
- Creation Date: today's date, or when classes were first held in this location.
- Name: a brief, but descriptive name of the subsite - ideally a building or facility name. Examples: Lake Superior College; Stearns County Jail; Lino Lakes (a facility under the MN Dept of Corrections site umbrella); Milaca Library.
- Abbreviation: a shortened version of the subsite name; use 6 or fewer characters.
- Contact: name of a person potential students could ask for.
- Address: the location of the subsite building. Important: use a complete street address - not P.O. box - for locating the subsite on a map. Do not include "room," "suite," or any other details in the street address field.
- Phone: the best number for a potential student to call for more info about classes in this location.
- Fax, Email, Website: complete the info if it's available.
-
Website: add a link to your ABE website if you like. Important: Do not type http:// or https:// at the beginning of the URL.
Add a new subsite
- Click the Admin tab. Then click "Manage Sub Sites."
- Complete the Add a New Sub Site form on the right side of the screen. See Explanation of Subsite Terms, above, for what each field should contain.
- Click the Save button.
The next step is to assign at least one room to the new subsite. To create, assign, or remove rooms from a subsite, see Add, Edit, or Hide Rooms.
Note: To move an existing class to a newly created subsite/room, you will also need to edit the class setup on the Classes>Summary screen. See Move Class to Another Subsite/Room.
Edit an existing subsite
Editing a subsite will retroactively change information. Classes and rooms will still be connected to the edited version of the subsite.
- Click the Admin tab. Then click "Manage Sub Sites."
- The Sub Site summary on the next screen will show all subsites that already exist. Click anywhere on the desired row to select it.
- In the pop-up screen that appears, review and change the existing subsite details. See Explanation of Subsite Terms, above, for what each field should contain.
- When finished, click the Save Changes button.
To create, assign, or remove rooms from a subsite, see Add, Edit, or Hide Rooms.
Hide an existing subsite
Subsites cannot be deleted, but you can hide them. When you hide a subsite, its name will no longer appear in the Sub Site menu on the Classes tab and class creation/edit screens. It will still be visible on the Admin>Manage Sub Sites screen after the hide date has passed.
- Click the Admin tab. Then click "Manage Sub Sites."
- On the Sub Site summary, click on the desired subsite row to select it.
- In the pop-up screen that appears, look for the Hide Date field at the bottom of the window. Enter the date the location no longer offered ABE classes.
- Save changes.
Rooms that were associated with the subsite will still exist, but will automatically be given the same hide date as the subsite.
To remove a hide date, click the date segment (month, day or year), then click your keyboard Back or Delete button. Repeat for each segment until the date shows the defaults: mm/dd/yyyy. Save changes.
