This article explains how to set up a new hybrid class for students.
A hybrid class combines two types of instruction, such as in-person, live online sessions, or independent distance learning (DL). Students must participate in both parts for the class to be considered hybrid.
Note: A hybrid class is not the same as a HyFlex class. In a HyFlex class, some students attend in person and some participate in the same class remotely via live feed. Students can choose how to participate. For HyFlex class setup, see the help article Create a HyFlex Class.

Class hours
In person and live (synchronus) online instruction
Both of these count as contact hours
Create one hybrid class to track contact hours. See instructions below.
Distance learning (asynchronous) instruction
Distance Learning (DL) counts as proxy hours
Track proxy hours separately from contact hours.
Enroll the student in an existing proxy hours class for the same DL platform, or create a new DL class if needed.
Create a class for DL proxy hours
If your hybrid class requires a DL proxy hour component, follow the instructions in Create a Distance Learning Proxy Class to set up the DL class.
Create a hybrid class for In Person or Live Online contact hours
Follow the steps in General Instructions: Create a New Class, paying special attention to the fields below:

Class Name: Use a consistent format that includes "Hybrid" or "Hybrid Online;" the online tool/software; and the content area. Examples:
• Hybrid FaceTime GED Math
• Hybrid Online Zoom ESL 3 - Attendance Format: Scheduled (for set meeting times, e.g., 9–10am)
- Student Hour Type: Select Contact
- Distance Learning Program: Select None
- Class Interaction: Select Hybrid or Hybrid (Online Only), whichever applies to this class
