FAQ- Desk Audit: US Ed Location w/"No Schooling" Ed Level (pink table)

Updated 9/10/2025 • *Internal NTS*

This article tells why a student appears on the Desk Audit table, US Ed Location w/No Schooling Ed Level table. It also has solutions for the most common causes.

!!! IMPORTANT NOTE !!!  By default, the Desk Audit report Start Date is set to
July 1 of the current NRS program year. When the report is run, SiD shows items in effect on the report Start Date (July 1, unless you change it).

Q: When I run the Desk Audit report, students appear on the US Ed Location w/ No Schooling Education Level. Why is this a problem, and how do I remove the student from this table?

A: A student on this table is marked as having been educated in the U.S., but their level of education is "no schooling." Children in the U.S. are required to attend school, so nearly all would have at least some schooling.

However, if the situation applies to your student, they can remain on the table; they don't need to be fixed. It's wise to make a note in the Education Completed history item Comment field, such as:

Usually, there's a problem with the Education Completed history item. Here are the most common issues and solutions.

Scenario 1

On the Students> History screen, the student has only 1 Education Completed history item, No Schooling. It's probably a typo.

Solution: It's not possible to EDIT an existing Education Completed history item. Your next step depends on the item's Effective Date.

When the Effective Date is AFTER July 1 of the current NRS program year:
Remove the
incorrect history item. Then add a new Education Completed history item with the correct grade level.

  1. On the Students>History screen, click the row with the desired Education Completed>No Schooling history item row.
  2. In the Edit box, click Remove this History and follow the prompts.
  3. Using the form at the top of the screen, add a new Education Completed history item with the correct grade level. For the Effective Date, use July 1, or the student's more recent entry date.

When the Effective Date is BEFORE July 1 of the current NRS year:
Add a new Education Completed history item for the correct grade level.

  1. On the Students>History screen, go to the form at the top of the screen
  2. Add a new Education Completed history item with the correct grade level.
  3. For the Effective Date, use July 1, or the student's more recent entry date. This will preserve the old entry that has already been reported to the Feds.

Scenario 2

On the Students>History screen, the student has more than 1 Education Completed history item. A No Schooling item is in effect on July 1.

Solution: Backdate the Effective Date of the more recent Education Completed entry so it is in effect on July 1.

  1. On the Students>History screen, select your site's Education Completed row with the most recent Effective Date.
  2. Edit the Effective Date to July 1 of the current NRS program year.
  3. Save changes
