Create, Manage Integrated Education & Training (IET) class

Updated 11/12/25

This article covers requirements for an Integrated Education & Training (IET) class. It includes how to create a new IET class or remove the IET designation.

An IET class is one of a set of services designed for student educational and career advancement. Required elements: ABE instruction, workforce prep, and workforce training delivered concurrently and collaboratively. For more information about IET, see this link: http://mnabe.org/career-pathways/iet. If you're unsure whether a class qualifies as IET, contact Julie Dincau at the MN Dept of Education (MDE) for guidance: julie.dincau@state.mn.us.

Note: IET classes must be approved by the MDE. The IET approval form can be found on the MNABE IET page: http://mnabe.org/career-pathways/iet.

In addition to meeting the class content requirements,

  • IET class names must contain "IET" AND
  • Class Instructional Mode must show a "yes" for Integrated Education and Training Program.

To rename an existing class so it includes "IET," see Edit the Name of an Existing Class.

Create a new IET class

  1. On the Classes tab, click the Add button in the bottom left corner.
  2. On the Class Create screen, complete all sections, paying CLOSE attention to these fields:
    • Class Title: Make sure the class name contains "IET." Examples: Microsoft Office Specialist Program IET, IET CNA, or Women's Culinary Skills IET.
    • Integrated Education & Training Program: Select YES (Must be approved by MDE) from the menu.
