This article describes how to upload CASAS eTests onto SiD student records.
Note: staff must have an Admin level SiD login to upload test scores.
These CASAS eTests can be uploaded: GOALS Reading; GOALS 2 Math; and STEPS Reading and Listening
Follow these important steps.
- Prepare and download the CASAS eTest file
- Import the CASAS scores into SiD
- Review and confirm the import results
Step one: Prepare and download the CASAS eTest file
Tip: to see larger versions of the screenshots below, right click on the image, then click Open image in new tab.
- Log in to etestsonline.org. The Testing Sessions window will appear.
- Choose Test Results from the left pane. In the Test Results window, click “Filter by: Test Date, Current Program Year, Test Is Not Locator”.
- Enter the "Test date between: ___ and ___" fields and choose the Modalities if necessary.
Note: Use the date of the test and the next day's date. For example, if you gave the test on Nov. 19, enter the following in the two date fields: 11/19/20XX and 11/20/20XX. If you enter 11/19/20XX in both fields, you will get no results.
Click the green Refresh button at the top right of the screen.
- The appropriate tests will appear based on the filters selected.
Confirm that these are the correct tests!
- Click the blue Export to CSV button at the top of the screen. Save the csv (comma separated values) file to the appropriate location.
Step two: Import the CASAS scores into SiD
- Log in to SiD. Click the Admin tab, then the Data Uploads link. On the next screen, choose Upload CASAS Test Scores (new).
- From the CASAS csv File Upload page, click the Choose File button. Then locate the csv file with the scores you want to upload.
- Carefully read and follow the 5 onscreen statements. Important: In the CSV file, the wording, spacing, and order for each column heading should be EXACTLY as noted in Step 3 on the upload screen. Otherwise you will get a yellow error message during the upload.
- Click the Import CASAS button. Heed the red type warnings to click the button only once!
If you run into trouble, see Troubleshooting Tips below.
Step three: Review and confirm the import results
The imported test results will temporarily appear on the upload screen. When you navigate away from this screen, the import results will disappear. You will not be able to use the browser back button to see them again. Make a pdf for your reference so you can see if there were any problems with test entry onto the SiD student record.
- Click the Generate PDF button.
- Look for any tests that were rejected. They will appear in red type.
- Review the two names on each row to make sure they match.
- The first name is the Student Name on the CASAS eTest test row.
- The second name, in parentheses, is the name of the SiD student that matches the badge ID given in the csv file.
- Spot check a few Students>Assessments screens. Make sure the test was entered correctly.
Troubleshooting
-
If you get a yellow error message saying "Input string was not in correct format" or something equally mysterious, open the CSV file and look for non-numeric characters like a comma.
---
To prevent the upload error when you have an extra character:
1. delete the extra characters from the CSV file
2. re-save the file as a CSV
3. try the upload again
---
If the Score field has a character but no actual score number:
1. delete the row from the CSV
2. re-save the file as a CSV
3. try the upload again -
If you find a test that was added to the wrong student record, delete the test immediately!
