Q: I ran my MSG report, and some students who earned MSGs don't appear in the results. Why don't I see their names?
A: There are several reasons why you might not see student names on the report. Here are the most common:
Student earned the MSG in a prior NRS Program year
The report shows students who earned an MSG dated between the report's Start and End Dates. If the MSG was earned before the report Start Date, it won't appear.
Student has too few attendance hours in the report date range
The report's Minimum Attendance Hours filter defaults to at least 12 attendance hours between the report's Start Date and End Dates. It's set at that level because students must have 12 attendance hours to be included on NRS reports.
You can lower the number of hours in the filter to look for students who earned MSGs with fewer than 12 hours. This will temporarily change the results in this report. Keep in mind that students must have at least 12 hours to appear on official NRS reports.
The Students>Summary screen shows the number of hours earned in the current Program year. You can also confirm the hours on the Students>Time screen.
MSG 1d - Student GED/HiSET subject score was not entered in SiD
Students can earn this MSG when students pass at least one GED/HiSET subject. To show this MSG, the test score must be added to the student record on the Classes>Assessment or Students>Assessment screen.
MSG 2 - Student didn't pass both screening levels of the GED/HiSET data match process
Twice a month, MDE sends SiD Support an updated list of people who passed the entire GED or HiSET test battery. (With this data match, programs are not required to enter individual subject test scores in SiD.)
Here are some reasons why the student may not get credit for passing.
- The SiD data match for GED/HiSET has not been run since your student passed the test.
- The match was run, but the student did not pass both screening levels required for the match to happen.
- Screening Level 1: First name and last name and birthdate are identical in both GED.com/HiSET and SiD.
- Screening Level 2: Phone number or email or social security number is identical in both GED.com/HiSET and SiD.
When students pass both screening levels, the GED/HiSET outcome is automatically added to the SiD record as an NRS Primary Goal history item. If you think a student has a data matching issue but you can't sort it out, send us an email at sidsupport@literacymn.org and we'll take a look.
- The student did not complete the entire battery.
MSG 2 - Student has an issue with the Diploma history item
There are two approved diplomas.
1. The State Competency-Based Diploma is awarded by the MN Dept of Education. When a student successfully completes all requirements, a history item will be automatically added to the Student>History tab. If you know your student passed, but the history item does not appear on the student's tab, let us know at sidsupport@literacymn.org.
2. The Local Credit-Based Diploma must be manually entered on the Students>History tab.
IMPORTANT--> Make sure to mark the history item Status as MET.
Note: A SET history item is not required for the diploma goal. If your program chooses to track both when the goal was SET and when it was MET, create 2 history rows. Do not combine both SET and MET into a single history item.
Keep in mind that most report filters look at the history item's Effective Date - not the End Date. If you use a Status item (set or met), it should be related to the Effective Date.
