Level Gains, MSGs, and Post Test Rates Report

Updated 1/27/25

Run this report regularly to keep an eye on the number of students who have level gains or other measurable skill gains (MSGs), and post-test rates. The report link is found on the Reports tab>Outcome Reports section, titled Level Gains, MSGs, and Post-test Rates.

By default, this report shows students with 12 or more attendance hours since the beginning of the NRS Program year on July 1.

The report does not show students who:

  • are missing an Entry Educational Functioning Level (EFL). This happens when the student has no valid pre-test for the current NRS year or
  • have a Conditional Work Referral history item in effect at any time in the report date range or
  • have a non-NRS student history item

Report Filters

The filters at the top of the report allow you to find specific groups of students.

For NRS reporting (the August submission), run the report with these settings:

  • Report dates: NRS Program year, July 1-June 30
  • All subsites and classes
  • Participants (Minimum Attendance Hours = 12)
  • Post-test status for All Students
  • Show Page 2 with raw data = No

Filter highlights:

  • Start Date/End Date: Students in this report have attendance hours between these two dates.
  • Site: If your consortium has multiple SiD sites and you have appropriate access, select individual SiD sites or supersite from this menu. Supersite combines data from all SiD sites in your consortium into a single report.
  • Sub Site: Use the default All Subsites, or select an individual subsite. Reports run for an individual subsite will include hours in classes at that subsite. Hours not associated with a class, such as intake/testing hours, will not appear on a subsite report.
  • Class: Use the default All Classes option or a single class from the menu.
  • Minimum Attendance Hours: Type a number in the box to return students who earned at least this number of hours during the report date range. The default of 12 hours is most common because it’s used for NRS reporting. Tip: change the number to 40 hours to see your program's Post-Testing Rates performance for the MDE's ABE Report Card.
  • Post-test Status: Run the report for all students or only those with a post-test.
  • Show Page 2 with Raw Data: Change to "yes" to see raw test info and some demographics about students on page 2 of the report.

Students on the report are arranged by EFL, which is based on a pre-test result. Click the plus + sign in the Pre-Test EFL column to see individual results.

The columns also show:

  • student counts and hours
  • post-test counts and percentages
  • student progress by MSG counts and percentages and
  • program progress toward NRS targets

  • MSGs 1 and 2 are open to all students. They will show a count of 1 when the student has completed the MSG.
  • MSGs 3, 4, and 5 will show a 1 when a student is appropriately enrolled in an IET or Workplace Literacy class AND has the related history item marked.
  • Students who earn more than one MSG will be counted only once in the MSG (Any Type) column.

The columns to the right of the main table show students who are enrolled in classes tagged as IET or Workplace Literacy. The Post Sec Credits, Milestone and Cred Earned columns show a 1 if the student has been given the history item.

Note: the additional columns – IET, Workplace Literacy, and history items - will appear only if your program has students in these categories.

To learn how to select history items for these students, see this SiD Help article: MSGs 3, 4, 5 for IET and Workplace Literacy Students.
