This article describes features of the Staff Required Training report. It also includes instructions for how to create an exemption to the ABE Foundations required training.
The Staff Required Training report lists active staff and the dates they completed training required by MDE policy. It is included with August Program Year report submission.

Report filters
Use the filters to select staff to include in the report results.
For NRS Program Year reporting, run the report with these settings:
- Report Dates: NRS Program year, July 1-June 30
- Site: choose the desired site or supersite name
- Active During the Program Year: select Active. ("Active" status is based on staff Program Entry/Exit history items)
- Staff Type: choose All
- Show Recommended Trainings: choose No
Report Body
Items in the report results are arranged in rows for each staff person. Here is a brief description of some columns.
To view a larger version of the image, right-click on it and choose "Open Image in New Tab."
- State Staff Type: Describes a person's main position or ABE function for reporting purposes
- First Entry, Most Recent Entry Date, Last Exit, and Active in this Date Range: Based on Program Entry/Exit dates on the Staff>History Screen

ABE Foundations: There are 3 possible displayed options:
1. The date the staff person completed the ABE foundations training
2. A blank, which means the staff person does not have this history item
3. "Exempt" when the staff person worked in an adult education role with an approved Minnesota Adult Education provider prior to July 1, 2023, OR the program has added an ABE Staff Training > Exempt history item. (See information below about exemptions.)
Best practice: add a Comment to the Exempt history item stating why they are not required to participate in 4 or 12 hour initial training. Comments will appear in the "Exempt Comment" column on this report.
MDE-approved Exemptions
MDE allows exemptions to the ABE Foundations requirement in these situations:
- Staff has successfully completed the Hamline University graduate course EDUC 7601, Introduction to Adult Education are exempt.
- Staff with special circumstances may also be exempt. Contact Astrid Liden at MDE: astrid.liden@state.mn.us
How to create an exemption for the ABE Foundations requirement in SiD
- On the Staff tab, find and select the desired staff person. Go to the Staff>History tab.
- Create a new history item using the form:
• Effective Date: the date the exempted course was completed or other exemption was approved by MDE
• History Group: ABE Staff Training
• History Item: ABE Foundations Exempt
• IMPORTANT! In the Comment field, enter one of these two reasons for the exemption: "Completed Hamline EDUC 7601" or "MDE Approved" with a short note of explanation - Click Save

CASAS and TABE Implementation or Recertification: There are 3 possible displayed options:
1. Date of the most recent training in a white cell
2. Date of the most recent training in a red shaded cell. This indicates the training is more than 5 yrs ago and recertification is required.
3. Blank when the staff has not had the training -
Distance Blended Learning, TVM, and Standard Adult Diploma 101: There are 2 possible displayed options:
1. Date of the most recent training in a white cell
2. Blank when the staff has not had the training
