Overview: GED hours for reimbursement

If your program claims reimbursement from the MDE for GED testing, those hours must be entered as block time OR as attendance in a special GED Testing Hours class. (Entering the official GED test scores will not automatically generate hours for Table A as is it did in the MARCS software.)

The method you choose will determine whether you can see GED hours for each subsite or only as a single total for the entire site.

Block time

Hours recorded on an individual's Student>Time screen as block time are not associated with a class or subsite. Therefore, GED testing hours entered as block time:

  • WILL appear on Table A and other reports when they are run for the entire site
  • WILL NOT appear on Table A and other reports when they are run for an individual subsite

GED Testing Hours class

When you create a special GED testing class, it IS associated with a subsite when the class is set up. Testing hours, which are recorded on the attendance screen, will be assigned to the subsite. Depending on your site setup, you may want to create a GED Testing Hours class for each subsite.

With this method, GED hours:

  • WILL appear on Table A and other reports when they are run for the entire site
  • WILL appear on Table A and other reports when they are run for an individual subsite

Allowable GED Testing Hours

ABE programs may claim up to 7.5 hours for students taking the entire GED series. Test time limits for each section/SiD hours are as follows:

  • Reasoning through Language Arts: 150 minutes/2.5 hours
  • Mathematical Reasoning: 115 mins/2 hours
  • Science: 90 mins/1.5 hours
  • Social Studies: 70 mins/1.5 hours
